This morning we had a visit from this red-tailed hawk, who has been hanging around Rittenhouse Square. He (I think it’s a young male) may be related to the pair who nested for several years at Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute:

What a great shot!
Wow, that’s really cool and amazing. I never really think about a bird of prey in an urban environment. I love the shot.
Wow, spectacular!
How exciting!
Awesome! Now that is up close and personal. How neat! Great photo.
What a handsome fellow !
Great shot.
Oh my, he’s gorgeous! I’m blessed to be able to watch bald eagles and hawks near the river where I work and just think they’re amazing creatures. What a beautiful photo!
Fantastic shot. Thank you for sharing it. -Max-
Wonderful photo. I think it is great when animals carve out a place in our urban worlds.
What a fabulous photo! The red tail hawk with the city in the background … love it!
He’s wondering if you know who’s hiring. Hey, hawks need good dental coverage too.
Rona, it is great when they pose for you without knowing. Watching hawks from windows is a good opportunity. I had a similar experience in November.

Awesome capture!
Amazing!!!
He must have a luxurious life with easy pickings among the pigeons.
Wow, that’d make me spill my coffee for sure, He’s beautiful!! Way to get in the moment. I think your shot is so interesting because of the high rises in the background vs the usual.
Hi Rona,
.
That is such a cool capture! If I was a bird, I would find some cool pad over in Rittenhouse to roost on. I could even swoop over to the French café & beg for some croissant… hehe.
Have a nice day
What a magical moment.
what a lovely shot
Astonishingly fabulous–being in the right place at the most opportune moment.
A very lovely shot. Looks like he came for lunch.
What a great portrait, Rona!
Omigosh! What a great visitor!
Great shot. Nice that he posed for you.
Our neighborhood Coopers Hawk is fun to watch. Once in a while he will come within feet of the house near the bird feeder (suburban type neighborhood) but it is hard to get a picture before he flies off. Sometimes I think I’m setting the table for him. I’ve watched him successfully and unsuccessfully chase for lunch.
Rona, this is exquisite! It is captivating to look at
Wow! What a great capture. He’s so regal looking!
This is fantastic Rona. Such a wonderful visitor you had. I think you need to start leaving him breakfast out the window for him to come back often.
What a great shot!
What an amazing picture!
Very cool sighting! Handsome-looking bird.
Great capture.
That is crazy. I would love to see a hawk that close up. So he just hangs around your window? Yeah…i’m super envious;)
Reblogged this on JENNIFER CHILDS and commented:
A friend of mine in the blogosphere, Rona Black captured this shot of a Red-Tailed hawk. He apparently likes hanging out on the ledge of her office. JEALOUS!
How lucky! People go places just to see eagles, and you get visited by one! So unfair of you.
Very nice catch too with that pose!
Majestic isn’t he?
What a blessing to look out your window and see such a visitor
Must be great to witness something like this in the city.
Wow. He looks healthy too
Great capture on this one, Rona.
Thanks very much, Lynne.
Fantastic shot, what a way to start the day! Stunning!
Thank you, Tracey. Yes, was such a wonderful surprise; the only problem was that I waited in vain for him to return at least once during our stay.
I can imagine the anticipation but you were lucky to have the experience and to have captured it forever!
